A pastor has been arrested in Ghana over the death of his British wife, according to reports locally.

Eric Isaiah Adusah, a self-proclaimed prophet, was arrested in connection with the death of his wife Charmain Adusah after she was found dead in a hotel room.

The couple checked in to the Mac-Dic Royal Plaza Hotel in Koforidua, Ghana, for five days on Monday March 16.

At dawn on the Morning of March 17 Mr Adusah checked out of the room and told hotel staff his wife was not to be disturbed.

After three days they became concerned for the welfare of Mrs Adusah as they could not contact her and decided to enter the room using a spare key.

Hotel workers found Charmain Adusah, who was apparently three months pregnant at the time, dead and face down in the bath with a towel wrapped around her body.

Mr Adusah was subsequently arrested by Ghanaian CID and is being questioned. He has not been charged.

Tributes have been paid to Charmain Adusah, a former NHS worker originally from Scotland, on Facebook and a page has been set up using her maiden name of Charmain Speirs.

Her mother Linda Speirs, 61, from Arbroath in Scotland, commented on Facebook: “My lovely daughter in memory to your son Isaac we will get justice for you Charmain love mammy. Xxxxxx.”

The couple, who were both involved with the Global Light Revival Ministries Church, based in West Green Road, Tottenham, had travelled to Ghana to attend a church programme organised by the House of Prayer Church International in Koforidua.

The Global Light Revival Ministries Church said in a statement on their website: “The Ministry express our deepest sympathy to our Prophet Eric Isaiah and the Speirs family and stand with them in prayer.

“The church wish to appeal to all to remain patient pending investigations into the true cause of death of our Charmain Isaiah Adusah.”

Ghanaian police are still investigating the matter while Charmaine Adusah’s body has been taken to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in the capital Accra awaiting autopsy.

A spokesman for the Foreign Office said: “We can confirm the death of a British national in Ghana. We are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time.”
