A teenage girl is in hospital after being attacked by a man wielding a metal pole.

Police were called at around 9pm on Saturday after a 15-year-old girl was attacked in front of a group of other children by the man.

The attack took place in Topham Square near Risley Avenue, Tottenham.

The girl was taken to a north London Hhspital after receiving a cut to her left hand which required surgery, and significant bruising to her body, as well as a potential fracture to her collarbone.

Her injuries are not thought to be life-changing, but he she remains in hospital.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the attack to contact them.

There are flats overlooking the area where the attack took place and detectives believe residents or members of the public may have filmed the attack on their mobile phones.

Detective Constable Elizabeth Eldered-Martos of Haringey CID said: “This was a serious assault on a teenage girl by a man who used a metal pole to attack her, causing significant injuries.

“Other children present during the incident were greatly distressed by what they witnessed. We believe a number of people filmed the attack on their mobile phones and I urge anyone who has any footage or any information to get in contact. Any information provided will be treated in the strictest of information confidence."

A 49-year-old man was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. He has since been bailed pending further enquires to a date in early June.
