Flowers were planted and walls cleaned as committee members prepared to open a community pub.

Members of the Antwerp Arms Association committee donned their rubber gloves over the weekend as they prepared the Antwerp Arms pub, in Church Road, Tottenham, for its grand opening next week.

See our video of the volunteers at work this weekend below.

Volunteers cleared the pub of all furniture before giving the entire building a deep clean, while others spent their afternoon in the garden creating hanging baskets or fitting brackets.

Ashley Grey, one of the founding members of the association, said: “This pub has been a really important part of my life and my children growing up, so having the help of all these people this weekend is brilliant.

“So many people have dropped in to help and the response has been fantastic, we really appreciate any one who has given their time up to get the place ready.

“We’re putting up the hanging baskets and making all these plans because we want to be that pub that people talk about and say how nice it is, and recommend it to all their friends.”

The pub, which was saved from becoming a housing development by members of the community, will open on Friday, April 24 from midday, with live music on offer during the evening.
