More than 5,000 people took part in the annual Crouch End fun at the weekend.

The 25th annual Crouch End Fun Run and Festival was attended by adult and child runners, spectators, politicians and celebrities.

Newly installed Mayor Councillor Jennifer Mann was there to watch the runners taking on the 10K adult race and 5K children’s race.

Comedian Mark Watson and former Eastenders actor Cliff Parisi also took part, with the actor joking “I’ve already run today, to get to the burger shop, but it was closed.”

The charity event is organised by North London YMCA to raise funds for vulnerable young homeless people and so far over £7,000 has been raised and runners have until the end of July to collect further sponsorship.

First to cross the line was Anton Van Zyl in a time of 34:36 with an impressive lead of more than a minute.

In the female event, London Heathside Athletics Club took 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, which went to Rebecca Piggott, Ella Waldman and Rebecca Bunting.

Carl Heap, also of London Heathside Athletics Club, has run in all 25 Crouch End 10k events and won the Male Vet 50 category in a time of 42:02.

He said: “Not quite the personal best I’d hoped for but I came to win this trophy today and I have.”

The festival and family fun day took place between 9am and 5pm and was sponsored for the fifth year running by estate agents Greene & Co.

Summer Preston, from Greene and Co’s Crouch End office, said: “Each year it seems to get even more successful.

“Never before has the festival been so packed, with something to suit all ages. Early in the day a Zumba dance demonstration livened up the crowd with everyone joining in and getting active.

“New to the day were the Go-Karts, with a constant queue of children eager to have a go, the fun sumo-wrestling was also once again a winner.”
