Haringey council cabinet will vote tonight on changes to the way in which community organisations pay rent on buildings.

The Community Buildings Review recommends that there is a phasing out of the current arrangement which sees some organisations pay subsidised rents for the buildings they use.

Instead the cabinet papers recommend that Community Model Lease is adopted for all community building which would see them pay a ‘standard commercial market rent’.

Some organisations would be exempt under certain conditions provided they adopt the model lease agreement and after an assessment on their value to the community conducted by the council.

The Community Buildings Review has been carried out by Haringey council over the last three years as they seek to set out a plan for community centres and services in the borough.

A group called the Haringey Community Centres Network will ask the council to postpone the vote at tonight’s cabinet meeting at the Haringey Civic Centre in High Road, Wood Green, as they would like to see additional consideration taken before the plans are approved.
