Up and coming singers from Haringey battled it out to win a master class with Tottenham rapper Wretch 32 – and a chance to perform at the borough's 50th birthday celebrations.

After a gruelling audition process, six young finalists have been chosen to compete against each other at Haringey@50 in the Park this weekend.

Contestants Lucia Tillson, Micah Greenway, Kai Rowe, Tyrell Wilcox, Ayesha Chaieb and Rama Ndiaye, all aged between 14 and 17, battled it out at a master class with covers of Adele, Clean Bandit, Beyonce and Lorde at New River Studios on July 23.

Wretch 32, who attended the master class to watch the performers, offered his valuable advice to each act on overcoming nerves, commanding the stage and conveying emotion into their music.

He said: “You need to find your own unique way of doing you, something that sets you apart from the other performers; whether it’s your clothes, hairstyle or even if you tell a story about yourself.”

Wretch had three top-five charting singles from his album Black & White in 2011, as well as features with Ed Sheeran and Example.

He added: “If it were up to me, you would all be winners.”

Each act will perform as part of Haringey’s 50th celebrations in Bruce Castle Park on the main stage.

The winner will be chosen by the audience on the day and will be given an iPad mini, receive studio time and have a music video produced for them.

Haringey@50 in the Park takes place on August 1 in Bruce Castle Park, Lordship Lane, from 12pm to 6pm.
