Shoppers will have to look elsewhere for their favourite clothing brand as a department store announces its last day of trading.

Marks & Spencer department store in High Road, Wood Green, has stood on the busy shopping parade for 77 years, but will now face closure.

After much consideration, M&S has announced its decision to close its Wood Green store with the final day of trading being September 26.

Employees have been made aware of the decision and have all been offered positions at a nearby M&S store.

A spokesperson for Marks & Spencer said: “After much consideration, we have taken the difficult decision to close our Wood Green store which will stop trading on 26th September.

“We will be offering roles for all colleagues in nearby stores.”

The shop first opened its doors in 1938 but the company had been trading in the area since 1913 as a penny bazaar, recently celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2013.

Shoppers voiced their concern about the closure last month, with Hornsey & Wood Green MP Catherine West writing to the company against the plans.
