DOZENS have people have been evacuated from shops, cafes and public buildings after a wide-ranging power cut hit Haringey.
The power went off in buildings around Wood Green station just after 2pm.
A police officer at the scene said it had affected "most of Wood Green."
Firefighters have arrived to investigate reports that a workman had drilled through a cable inside the building which houses Wood Green Library and shopping arcade in Wood Green High Road.
Carer Pa Ebou, 52, from Retreat Place, Hackney, was enjoying a novel on his lunch break inside the building when the power went down.
"Everything went off and they said get out. I'm staying around though, I've still got some lunch break left and I want to get back to my book."
Businesswoman Natalie Morgan, 26 of Cranbook Park, Wood Green was also in the library.
"I was working on my life and business coaching business in the business lounge when it all went black," she said.
"I've got quite a bit to do but I might cut my losses and go home, see it as a sign that I've stopped working for the day."
