A WOOD Green cafe owner who raped a woman after "disrespecting" him by refusing his advances has been jailed for eight years.

Ebuzer Duran, 44, of Downhills Park Road, appeared at Wood Green Crown Court, in Lordship Lane, today after a jury found him guilty of the sexual attack on October 20. He will be placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Sentencing him, Judge Simon Carr said his crime had been "appalling".

Detective Constable Pete Webb said: "This was a vicious and violent attack by a man who... subjected his victim to a terrifying ordeal, claiming that he lost control because she had disrespected his 'honour'.

"He used a significant level of violence, threatened her with a knife and kept her locked inside the venue during the attack, which she is still affected by to this day.

“I would like to thank the victim for having the courage to give evidence and see her attacker brought to justice. I hope that today's sentence can go some way in helping her move forward with her life."

Police began investigating Duran after a 23-year-old woman, whose identity is protected by law, told police of her ordeal.

The victim said Duran had started flirting with her at his Lordship Lane cafe and attempted to talk her into having a relationship with him.

When she rejected his advances, he grabbed her. The victim threw hot tea at him in an attempt to defend herself but the act infuriated Duran who began punching her repeatedly and threatening to kill her.

The 23-year-old made two attempts to escape but found Duran had locked her in the cafe and on each occasion, dragged her back by the hair while kicking and punching her.

Using a knife to threaten his victim, Duran confiscated her mobile phone and forced her into a back room and proceeded to rape her.

But immediately after the attack, the victim contacted by her friends who rushed to the cafe. Duran was arrested at the scene.
