A SENIOR Government official from its schools department will visit Tottenham this afternoon.

Permanent secretary at the Department for children, schools and families, David Bell will visit Moselle School, in Adams Road, to hear first-hand about the school's string of achievements.

The school caters for pupils with learning difficulties ranging from moderate to severe, as well as young people with emotional, language and communication needs and young people with autism.

Moselle was deemed "outstanding" in its 2007 Ofsted inspection and recently received accolades for Outstanding Sustainable Travel in conjunction with a Guardian newspaper project.

Headteacher Martin Doyle said: "We are pleased to be able to welcome the permanent secretary to Moselle, and we look forward to introducing him to everyone in our school community.

"It is always rewarding for pupils and staff to be able to present and explain some of the school's many achievements to visitors from the wider community".

Mr Bell was appointed to the post in 2005 by former Prime Minister Tony Blair.

He previously held the position of Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Schools in England and has worked as chief executive of Bedfordshire County Council but started his career as a teacher.
