TWO Haringey organisations will lead a ceremony in Wood Green this afternoon to raise awareness of HIV and Aids.
Charities Positive Rainbow, a support group for HIV positive men who sleep with men (MSM), and Speaking for Ourselves, an HIV support group, have put together Engage and Remember 2009 as their contribution to the struggle against the virus.
A commemoration event will be held outside Wood Green Central Libray at 4pm.
Haringey mayor Bernice Vanier will light candles and lead a a minute's silence to remember those across the world who have lost their lives after contracting the disease.
Organiser Mary Pale, of Speaking for ourselves, said: "It is important to mark World Aids Day in Wood Green as it brings people from diverse backgrounds together to raise awareness of HIV in an international, national and perhaps, most effectively, in a local context."
The event is held every year to mark World Aids Day on December 1.
