SMOKERS in Haringey are being offered help to kick the habit in 2010.
Smokefree Haringey, which helped nearly 2,000 residents give up smoking last year, is offering support to those thinking about quitting in the New Year.
On average many smokers will try to quit seven times before they are successful.
Smokefree Haringey stop smoking service manager, Vicky Smith, said: "Someone who smokes is four times more likely to successfully quit smoking with help.
"Many smokers plan to quit every new year. The best way is to use the Smokefree stop smoking service combined with Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT)."
Smokers can get free advice and access to NRT which includes gums, patches, inhalators, NRT voucher booklets, Champix and Zyban.
Trained stop smoking advisors are located across Haringey in clinics, GP practices and pharmacies.
Smoking is one of the most significant factors contributing to life expectancy and ill health, particularly cancer, coronary heart disease and respiratory disease.
Stop smoking groups are also available at venues throughout the borough where you can get one-to-one advice or join a group programme.
Smokers who want to give up can call Smokefree Haringey on 0800 085 6258 or ask for details at your local health centre.
