Escaped killer Fida Utmanzi, from Tottenham, on the loose for a week

POLICE continue to appeal for information after a convicted killer escaped from a mental hospital in Edmonton last week.

Fida Mohammed Utmanzi, 20, who had lived in Tottenham, absconded from North London Clinic, in Church Street, at around 7.30pm last Monday.

Officers were notified by the hospital shortly afterwards, but are yet to find him.

It is believed he escaped by scaling a 5.2m wall.

Utmanzi was born in Afghanistan and was last seen wearing black Adidas pants with white stripes on the sides, a navy blue hooded top and grey trainers.

He is 6ft 1in tall and thin with short black hair. He is also known to have cigarette burns on his arms.

He has previous connections to the Tottenham, Fulham and Putney areas of London, and has spent time in Newcastle.

He was detained indefinitely under the Mental Health Act after being convicted of the manslaughter of Rasool Khan at the Old Bailey on January 8, 2010.

The court heard Utmanzi attacked his fellow Afghan at his West Green Road flat, in Tottenham, on March 3, 2009, after being plagued by paranoid delusions.

Utmanzi was charged with murder but pleaded guilty to manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility.

The two men, both asylum seekers, had met in the north of England and later relocated to Tottenham.

Members of the public are advised not to approach Utmanzi, but to call police immediately on 999.
