Minsterial debate over Whittington's future

HORNSEY and Wood Green MP Lynne Featherstone will lead a parliamentary debate over the future of the Whittington Hospital and others in north London this afternoon.

Ms Featherstone will press Labour ministers over the proposals drawn up by the North Central London (NCL) Review which will radically change services provided at all hospitals in Haringey, Barnet, Enfield, Islington and Camden.

Documents leaked last year revealed there was a strong possibility the A&E department at the Whittington, in Archway, could be closed, meaning patients in Haringey could be forced to travel further afield for emergency treatment.

Patients and critics fear this could be further pressure on other hospitals who are already struggling from bed shortages.

Maternity services and children's services at the hospital are also under threat.
