Wood Green film festival gets ready for lights, camera and action

WOOD Green's eighth International short film festival is promising to be a "truly global" affair with offerings from as afield as the Middle East.

Film-makers from 18 different countries, including Poland, Peru, USA and the United Arab Emirates, will have their short films screened alongside Haringey talent at the four-day festival which kicks off on March 25.

More than 60 films from 18 different countries will be aired at Cineword, in High Road, Wood Green, as well as fringe events such as workshops, a youth film day and an awards ceremony at different venues across the borough.

The movie magic ends with a swanky gala at Alexandra Palace.

Councillor Bob Harris, cabinet member for corporate resources, said: "We received so many fantastic entries for the film festival and it is shaping up to be a really wonderful event for Wood Green.

"With such a diverse community here in Haringey, it's great the festival will have such an international flavour.

"I'm sure that with the huge variety of films being shown, there really will be something for everyone and I hope that local film lovers will pack out the screenings and take advantage of the many workshops and events planned for the weekend."

Categories will include real-life documentaries, animation and experiemental film-making
