Haringey Council housing managers, Homes for Haringey, sign five-year deal

Homes for Haringey has signed a new five-year deal on Monday allowing it to continue to manage the borough's social housing.

Haringey Council's arms length management organisation (ALMO) was granted the new contract following a successful implementation of the Decent Homes Programme — a Government initiative to bring living conditions up to the standard required.

Homes for Haringey (HfH) is also making good progress towards achieving a full three-star rating from the Audit Commission, according to housing boss Councillor John Bevan.

In its 2007 inspection, it achieved two stars.

Cllr Bevan, cabinet member for housing, environment and conservation, said: "Homes for Haringey has progressed the Decent Homes Programme as was agreed when the council stock was transferred to the ALMO five years ago. We have seen modernisation of many homes and the programme of refurbishment will continue unabated.

"I look forward to continuing our partnership work with HfH in the future while they make an even more significant contribution to rolling out the Decent Homes standard across the borough."

Homes for Haringey's chief executive, Paul Bridge, said the new contract was "excellent news".

Mr Bridge added: "Since we launched in 2006, we've been working hard to improve the services we provide to residents and we can now look forward to continuing this work over the next five years."
