AN exemplary skills school in Haringey has been named one of the best in the country by Ofsted report for helping hundreds of learners get ready for the workplace.
Chief inspector Christine Gilbert said 5E Ltd, based at the Selby Centre, in Tottenham, hailed the not-for-profit organisation as an inspiration whose good practice other providers could learn from.
The top inspector launched the report, Twelve Outstanding providers of work-based learning, last week at an annual conference for the Association of Learning Providers (ALP).
She said: "The organisations display a real drive to inspire, challenge, and support young people and adult learners. While their paths to success may vary, they have each made an important contribution to addressing the critical issue of developing skills for employment, while also helping employers to compete in a tough economic environment.
"These outstanding providers have worked hard to build the respect of learners and employers."
The report identified some common success factors between the twelve leading organisations and highlighted practical examples of their "outstanding" provision.
Set up in 1998, 5E Ltd led by director Raj Doshi, delivers Train to Gain programmes in subjects ranging from health to IT.
It runs an employability skills programme aimed at disadvantaged learners including those who have been out of work for long periods or those with no qualifications.
Mr Doshi said: "We thrive on improving our quality of provision but the final pleasure is to see the smile and the confidence in our customers who progress into mainstream and meaningful educational and/or employment opportunities to make an equal and ever lasting contribution to their families and society.
"Our success has arisen from addressing the needs of the most economically inactive groups in the community, by providing outstanding delivery of courses, accredited qualifications and highly experienced tutors and staff, who have in turn maintained continuous cultural improvement and professional development."
The director added that much of the credit had to go to the staff who were adept at really supporting their learners.
