AROUND 500 volunteers arrived at the Selby Centre in Tottenham on Sunday to help transform the community centre.

X Factor star Olly Murs and television presenter Jameela Jamil were also present for the event which was organised by Orange RockCorps, an organisation that rewards voluntary work to help the community by organising concerts featuring big name acts.

Artists including Pendulum, Mark Ronson & the Business Intl, N-Dubz and Taio Cruz will be appearing at this year's concert at the Royal Albert Hall on September 24.

The Selby Trust has run the Selby Centre, in Selby Road, since 1993 with the motto of "Many cultures, one community".

The trust has a strong local identity, employing staff from estates who originally started as volunteers and now run the centre in partnership with community groups, residents and Haringey Council.

Orange RockCorps volunteers helped transform the Selby Centre with a combined 2,000 hours work. Local people in White Hart Lane will benefit from the rebuilding of a children's playground using recycled wood, the transformation of sports areas, a newly painted community café and community halls with murals and designs and plants and flowers in the centre’s green spaces.
