Church to raise cash for community hall

A baptist church in Tottenham will hold an event next weekend to raise money to build a new community hall.

West Green Baptist Church in West Green Road will be holding the event, called Flavours of the World, on Saturday, May 26.

Church members have so far contributed £240,000 but a further £305,000 is required to fund construction of the new building.

The new hall will replace the previous Memorial Hall which was demolished in 2009.

There will be food, fashion and face painting, as well as a steel band.

John Harvey, church elder, said: "The church conducted research, consulting residents, community groups and councillors and found a strong demand for a safe and welcoming meeting place, open to all with a range of activities for children and young people."

The event, which costs £5 for adults and £3 for children, will take place between 2 and 6pm at the church.
