Single mum with heart set on Hollywood returns from international competition
A single mum aiming for a career in the film industry has returned with two medals from an international performing arts competition.
Nicola Jallim, 25, of Wood Green, took part in the World Championships of Performing Arts last week in Los Angeles, after having raised £2,300 from friends and family to pay for the trip.
The mum-of-one, of Station Road, spent nine days in LA battling it out to win the competition in the comedy and contemporary acting categories for which she won two silver medals.
The 25-year-old, said: “When I found out I had won it was so overwhelming and unexpected. It was an amazing experience and it was fantastic to be able to go to LA.”
Miss Jallim was the only competitor from the UK taking on contestants from 40 countries around the world who had teams of actors and actress taking part.
She added: “I have to say when I first arrived and found out I was the only competitor from the UK it was a bit daunting to be taking on all those other countries.
“But despite that it was a great experience and I made some good friends and met some good contacts.”
Since her trip to the States, Miss Jallim has been planning to move to LA with the hope of making it in the film industry.
She has dreamt of an acting of an acting career since she was young but had to put her Hollywood ambitions hold following the birth her son Khalil when she was 18.
Miss Jallim spent her teenage year’s performing with the Chickenshed Theatre, in Enfield, leaning her skills and then completed her degree in media and theatre at the University of East London while being a full-time mum.
