A volunteer group providing activities for young families will be celebrating 50 years of work in the borough.
Haringey Families provides help and services to families in the borough such as holiday parties, playgroups and an annual Summer Fun Day.
The group was formed in October 1962 by a group of mothers under the name The Hornsey Housebound Wives Group.
Bridget Adams, on the committee of Haringey Families, said: “We’re really proud the group has been going for so long. And what is great is that it has been run by volunteers for all that time.
“I think the reason it has been so successful is that parents and families today need the same things they did 50 years ago.
“The group is a great way for parents and child to meet one another and also be part of the community.”
The group organises playgroups for member’s children, mainly aged between three and seven-years-old, and giving them the chance to enjoy cultural, social and recreational activities.
The non-profit organisation has more than 600 members in the borough and organises more than 50 different activities each year.
Over the coming year the group will be holding a number of events to celebrate its milestone culminating with a fireworks display in November next year.
