Tottenham Hotspur has confirmed its intention to stay in the North Tottenham and has pledged to work with Haringey Council to rejuvenate the area.
In joint statement with the council, Spurs have said they will work with the authority with its plans to build a new stadium, new homes, shops and leisure facilities as part of the Northumberland Development Project.
Also in the statement Haringey Council has said it will invest £9 million towards new and improved public space, heritage and environmental work in North Tottenham.
Tottenham Hotspur chairman, Daniel Levy, said: “As a major employer and business in the area we are delighted with this commitment from the Mayor and Haringey Council.
“We have long said we could only invest in the area if we could see our commitment supported by others and that there was a real need to maximise the regeneration benefits and lift the wider area.”
The club and the council a have entered a joint memorandum of understanding setting out their support for the Northumberland Project.
There is also agreement between the two for wider area regeneration through the development of a North Tottenham regeneration programme.
The proposed initiative will involve consultation with people living in Tottenham and will focus on improving quality of life and attracting new business to the area.
