Green Lanes nearly dead?

9:07am Friday 18th April 2008

As a resident of some 36 years, I would like to bring to the attention of Mr Petrou that Haringey's Green Lanes and Grand Parade area has been dying for many years (Bookies will kill our community', April 11).

It is stifled by an excess of members' clubs, cafés, restaurants, take-away food shops (more than 26) and food stores (more than 26) - 52 in total - out of approximately 139 retail premises between Harringay Green Lanes Station and the Salisbury pub.

Therefore, given the amount of illegal gambling that goes on in and at the back of certain premises in the area, a further legally controlled betting shop, providing much-needed jobs in the area, should be the of least of our concerns.
