Biking boroughs short changed

The Mayor of London’s pledge of £4m for biking boroughs is welcome, but when you spread it over three years and 13 boroughs it averages out as little more than £102,000 per year, per borough.

This sounds a lot, but it's hardly enough to buy a few good quality parking stands. The Mayor has recognised that he can’t have a hands off approach to cycling in the boroughs; he needs local authorities to build cycle routes, provide training, increase cycle parking and generally persuade people out of their cars. But with annual cuts to local transport budgets of £21.2 million a year a lot more funding is going to be needed in order to realise the Mayor’s bid for a cycling revolution.
