Haringey Borough ease past New Bradwell St Peter in Challenge Trophy

Holders Haringey Borough continued the defence of the South Midlands League Challenge Trophy with a 6-1 win at New Bradwell St Peter on Tuesday night.

As last year’s winners, Boro were obviously expected to overcome opposition propping up the division below them and the match was effectively over by half time when they were 5-1 up.

Richard Worrell powered home a header from a left wing corner in the third minute and the next two goals were also close-range headers. Lewis Laws netted in the 13th minute and Worrell again struck in the 16th minute.

Worrell completed his hat-trick in the 35th minute and three minutes later Roland Namquita swept the ball home from close range after Dean Fenton ran onto a well weighted pass from debutant Mtaka Simba to slam over a low cross.

The home side had threatened too and were unlucky to have struck the framework twice but deserved their reward two minutes before the interval when Adam Moore took full advantage of some indecisive Borough defending to drive home a low shot.

New Bradwell enjoyed the significant slope advantage in the second half and came more into the game without ever looking likely to close the deficit.

The only goal of the second half was scored by Worrell with a hard low shot just inside the post from the edge of the penalty area.

In the third round Boro will visit the winners of the tie between Crawley Green and London Tigers.
