Tottenham Hotspur reportedly in talks with FC Twente over sale of young defender William Ekong

Spurs are in discussions with Dutch club FC Twente over the possibility of defender William Ekong returning to his home nation, according to The Times.

The 19-year-old is yet to feature for Spurs’ first team, having been at the club since 2010, and it is understood that Steve Mclaren’s side are favourites to secure his signature.

The promising youngster was a regular in Spurs Under-18s last season and also appeared in their NextGen Series campaign, but it seems Spurs have decided he is unlikely to break into the senior squad.

Dutch side RKC Waalwijk invited him to train with them for a couple of days in October, whilst there was also reported interest from Go Ahead Eagles, but the centre-back appears to be heading to Twente.
