Haringey Borough snatch late win at Hatfield Town

Dean Fenton's late winner gave Haringey Borough a 3-2 victory away at relegation-threatened Hatfield Town.

The result was Boro’s first win of 2013 out of three attempts to move them up to 11th in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division.

Hatfield’s goalkeeper Emmanuel Olajide put in a man-of-the-match performance to frustrate Haringey for much of the game and Boro hit the woodwork twice in an encounter which they dominated.

The away side created numerous openings at the start of the game but Town struck first when Chris Webb drove home on 15 minutes.

Fenton equalised for Haringey in between efforts from Darrell Cox and Chris Morgan that hit the crossbar as Haringey upped the ante.

Rakim Richards’ deflected strike gave the visitors a 2-1 lead just before half-time.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first but Olajide pulled off some brilliant saves to keep Hatfield in the contest.

His acrobatics paid dividends when Sam Wadhans smashed the ball in from a few yards out for the hosts.

From this point, the game became an open affair with both teams just as likely to score as one another before Fenton delivered the killer blow towards the end.

Town pushed for an equaliser to no avail and Cox and Dewayne Clarke nearly scored for Haringey on counter-attacks but the outstanding Olajide prevented Boro winning by a larger margin.

Next up for Haringey are St Margaretsbury at Coles Park this Saturday at 3pm before the League Challenge Trophy holders travel to Crawley Green the following Wednesday to defend their title.
