Haringey boys’ team finished joint fifth in the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games Indoor Cricket Finals at Lord’s on Sunday.

The north Londoners reached the quarter-finals where they lost to Tower Hamlets by three wickets (99-93).

There was however some comfort for Haringey [pictured], beating local rivals Islington by three wickets (101-99) in the consolation match to decide the final positions.

Team manager John Beckett said: “I think overall they performed really well, we just fell asleep in the fielding in the quarter-final and I think that cost us the game. “We gave away ten or 12 runs and in a close game that made the difference. Other than that they were really good and I’m really proud of them.”

He added: “It’s a fantastic experience to play at Lords and I imagine something the boys will remember for the rest of their lives. They are quite blasé about it now as they are quite young, but I think they will look back and say ‘well, I’ve played at lords’, which not many people can say.”
