Tottenham Hotspur to play FC Basel in Europa League quarter-finals

Spurs will face FC Basel in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Andre Villas-Boas' side, who progressed into the last eight on away goals after losing 4-1 to Inter Milan in the second leg yesterday, will be at home for the first leg on April 4, with the return in Switzerland taking place a week later on April 11.

Spurs managed to avoid fellow Premier League sides Chelsea and Newcastle United in the draw and with all three English sides kept apart, it means three-quarters of the semi-final could potentially be made of teams from these shores.

Like their quarter-final opponents, Basel also lost the second leg of their last-16 tie yesterday, 1-0 at Zenit St Petersburg, but progressed 2-1 on aggregate.

Europa League quarter-final draw: Chelsea v Rubin Kazan; Tottenham Hotspur v FC Basel; Fenerbahce v Lazio; Benfica v Newcastle United (ties to be played on April 4 and 11).
