Haringey Borough thrash Southend Manor
2:45pm Thursday 24th October 2013 in Sport
Haringey Borough produced one of their best displays of the season to extend their winning run to four after thrashing Southend Manor 5-0.
Seizing the initiative from the start, Boro were in control after ten minutes play when fine work by Dewayne Clarke set up Dean Fenton and Anthony McDonald for clinical low close-range finishes.
A spell of end-to-end play ensued but in the 28th minute Clarke scored the goal of the match as he picked up a clearance from a Manor corner deep in his own half on the left and simply outran opponents and colleagues alike to blast the ball past the keeper.
The hosts were handed the fourth goal in the second half when the keeper fumbled a high ball and Fenton tapped home from just a few yards. Clarke wrapped up the scoring in the 73rd minute with his close control enabling him to launch a run from the right and smash the ball home.
Haringey eased to a 3-0 win at Tower Hamlets in the FA Vase on Saturday.
Boro’s victory has earned them a second round tie at Walsham Le Willows on Saturday, November 16.
The visitors grabbed an early lead when McDonald blasted home after fine work by Clarke down the right.
Boro doubled their lead after 38 minutes when Fenton beat the offside trap and rounded the keeper from a tight angle.
Solomon Shields should have wrapped up the win before half-time but managed to fire wide of the keeper’s right hand post from the six-yard line. Ashley Harris was forced into a superb save to deny a header in the second half.
The hosts were reduced to ten men late on for a second yellow card and Boro punished them when McDonald curled in his second of the game.
