Holland manager Louis van Gaal has dropped his biggest hint that his next challenge will be in the Premier League and Tottenham could be his destination.

The 62-year-old will first tackle the task of guiding Holland to glory for the first time at a World Cup when they travel to Brazil this summer.

After the tournament is over he will look for a new challenge with England being the most likely destination.

Van Gaal has previously managed some of the giants of European football in Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Ajax and seemed open to where his future may lie.

"I will definitely not be in charge for the Euro 2016 qualification campaign. I don't know where I will go next," van Gaal is quoted by the Guardian.

"Normally I go with my pension and go to live in Portugal, but maybe there will come a new challenge.

"I have said before that a challenge should be a club in the Premier League. That's a challenge.

"Maybe Tottenham are coming but, first, we have to go to Brazil."

Tim Sherwood had a bright start to life in management at White Hart Lane but the set-back of losing at Norwich at the weekend could see the door open again for a new man in charge.

Van Gaal added to the Daily Mail: "I am mostly interested in England because I have been a coach in Spain, Germany, in the Netherlands, so I think England is the next step in my career.

"It could be another club (other than Spurs), it depends on the vacancies because Spurs were already in touch with me.

"I prefer to be focused on this World Cup and now there's another coach (Sherwood), so as a coach you cannot say 'I go to that club or that club', it depends on circumstances."
