Thousands of Tottenham Hotspur fans will attend a long-awaited testimonial game for club legend and ambassador Ledley King at White Hart Lane tonight.

The retired centre-back, who made 321 appearances for Spurs, said the “emotional” game will be “a chance to say thanks for the support”.

King has made sure that his persistent knee problems will not hinder his special night by training at the club’s Enfield complex over the past two weeks and working with the club’s physios.

A team of first team Spurs players will play against a guest XI, featuring a number of club legends who played with King throughout his career.

Among them are striker Teddy Sheringham, midfielder Darren Anderton and wingers David Ginola and Ruel Fox (see below for the full team list).

The ‘Legends XI’ will be managed by former Spurs player and manager Glenn Hoddle.

Current Spurs boss Tim Sherwood, who played alongside King during his time as a player, said yesterday he was still unsure whether he will manage the Tottenham XI or play in the legends side.

Tributes to the former England international have already started, with Mayor Boris Johnson thanking King “for everything that he has done for the city”.

Tonight’s match will raise money for Tottenham Hotspur Foundation’s Skills project, The Willow Foundation and Bowel Cancer Awareness UK.
