Haringey Borough’s 23-match unbeaten run came to an end as their season finished disappointingly with a 1-0 defeat to Hullbridge Sports in the Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy final on Tuesday night in Burnham.

The kick-off was delayed by 25 minutes and Haringey’s preparations were hit after two players were unable to get to the ground before the final got underway.

Nick Nicou had Boro’s best early chance but, with his back to goal, he hooked a shot just over the bar from the six yard line. The crucial breakthrough came when keeper Austin Byfield did not get enough distance on his punch and Michael Edgar fired into the net.

Haringey looked like they would score before the break but Richard Worrell’s fierce strike was pushed round the post by keeper Bobby Mason.

Haringey struggled to create opportunities for an equaliser in the second half and failed to produce the form which saw Tom Loizou’s side challenge for the Essex Premier Division title.

Dean Fenton had a half chance but he headed wide of the target.

The final effort fell to Dewayne Clarke but could only send his shot into the side netting from a title angle as they were beaten for the first time since March.
