Veteran goalkeeper Brad Friedel has signed a one-year contract extension to keep him at Tottenham Hotspur next season.

The 43-year-old goalkeeper will play into his 44th year after agreeing a one-year extension with the north London outfit.

Friedel, who made just one Premier League start last term, joined Spurs from Aston Villa in 2011 and has since made 69 appearances in all competitions for the club.

As part of his new contract, Friedel will take on an ambassadorial role, which will include greater involvement in Spurs' global coaching programme and engaging supporters clubs across America.

The former USA international began his career with the United States Soccer Federation, moving to England and Denmark on loan with Newcastle United and Brondy respectively.

A stint in Turkey with Galatasaray was followed by a return to the States with Columbus Crew before the Ohio-born gloveman moved to England to join Liverpool in 1997.

Joining Blackburn Rovers in 2000, Friedel made his name at Ewood Park before switching to Aston Villa in 2008.

After three years at Villa Park, Friedel moved to White Hart Lane on a free transfer.
