Muswell Hill footballer Victor Bamidele Ojo was part of an amateur five-a-side team which beat professional Brazilian women's 5-a-side team, Vasco, 7-1.

Ojo was selected alongside two other amateur players, who helped defy the odds to come from behind and beat Vasco in Rio de Janeiro.

The three players were selected from a trial day attended by 900 hopefuls and joined five Royal Navy sailors from Portsmouth to record the improbable result as part of the Strongbow 'EARN IT Challenge'.

Vasco's side boasted nearly 100 Brazilian caps and veterans of previous World Cups and Olympics Games.

Former Bradford City boss Chris Kamara managed the side and said afterwards: "It was a dream job managing the Strongbow team in Rio. The Brazilian ladies are top-class players, with an abundance of footballing flair and skill. My boys did exceptionally well though and I’m absolutely delighted we managed to get the win – hopefully this is a sign of things to come this summer in Brazil from our boys."

Matt Shortt, captain of HMNB Portsmouth, added: "I still can’t believe we won. I think we were all shocked to take on a team like Vasco - who have played in World Cup and Olympic Games tournaments - was an amazing experience.

"The lads really stuck together and somehow we managed to get the victory against all the odds."
