Tottenham Hotspur are keen to tie down defender Jan Vertonghen to a new long-term deal, according to the Daily Mail.

The Belgian defender has been heavily-linked with a move to Barcelona this summer but other clubs are understood to be monitoring his situation at White Hart Lane.

Vertonghen, 27, is currently contracted to Spurs until June 2016 but head coach Mauricio Pochettino is keen to tie the former Ajax centre-back down to a longer-term deal.

Signed from the Amsterdam club in 2012, the 6ft2in defender has established himself as a key component in Tottenham's back four and one of the finer defenders in the Premier League.

The St-Niklaas-born defender featured 32 times for Tottenham last term in an injury-affected season.
