Spurs have agreed a £17m transfer fee for Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio, according to the Daily Mirror.
The North London side have made their move for the 23-year-old Argentinean, who can play centre-back and right-back, with a five-year deal understood to be on the table.
New Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino believes his fellow Argentine will adapt to life in Premier League and sees Musacchio as part of his first-choice back four for the new season.
The Rosario-born defender began his professional career at Argentine side River Plate before moving to Europe to join The Yellow Submarine in 2009.
Musacchio, whose grandparents are Italian, has won two full caps for Argentina and has represented the Albiceleste at youth level.
