Tottenham Hotspur have been alerted to the availability of transfer target Mattia Destro, after Roma confirmed he could leave the club this summer, according to the Evening Standard.

The 23-year-old striker is believed to be a target for Mauricio Pochettino’s side but has also reportedly attracted interest from London rivals Chelsea, who have made enquiries regarding a possible part-exchange for striker Fernando Torres.

Spurs are keen to reinforce their attacking options with effectively only three first-team forwards currently on the books, although 29-year-old Spaniard Roberto Soldado has been told he is surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane.

Sources in the Italian capital have claimed the Tottenham technical director Franco Baldini met his Roma counterpart Walter Sabatini in London last night.

Destro is keen on a move to the Premier League, as opposed to another European league, having turned town an approach from Bundesliga club Wolfsburg earlier this summer.

One possible stumbling block though for Spurs should they enter negotiations with the player, would be his rumoured £90,000 a week wages and the £20m valuation Roma have slapped on him.
