Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris put in a fine display to deny Manchester United in a frantic 0-0 draw.

The visiting side dominated the first half but failed to convert several crucial chances with the French keeper in fine form.

The tempo could not be matched in the second half as Spurs created more openings but could not find a way through.

Tottenham now extend their unbeaten run against Man United to five and moved above North London rivals Arsenal into fifth.

Spurs made four changes to their side that defeated Leicester 48 hours ago with Vlad Chiriches, Ben Davies, Andros Townsend and Ryan Mason coming in for Kyle Walker, Danny Rose, Nabil Bentaleb and Erik Lamela.

Man United named an unchanged line up for the first time since November 2012.

After a pulsating start, four big chances came in as many minutes as first Juan Mata played in Falcao who was only denied by the outstretched boot of Federico Fazio.

Spurs then had two big chances of their own as first Harry Kane couldn’t control the ball in the six yard box and then Andros Townsend drew a save from David De Gea.

Vlad Chiriches then produced a last-gasp goal-line clearance after Mata had struck the  post with Falcao and Robin Van Persie desperately trying to scramble the ball home.

It was high-octane stuff at White Hart Lane with Spurs players taking far too many risks on the ball and losing possession as a a result.

Man United strikers seemed to playing ‘who can miss the easiest chance’ as a Phil Jones looped ball found Van Persie six yards out in acres of space.

Yet the Dutchman tried to be too clever and Lloris managed to keep out the United striker.

Again the visiting side came forward and Pochettino’s side once again called on their goalkeeper to produce a fine save.

Ashley Young’s curling effort was clawed away by the Frenchman in spectacular fashion.

The second half saw a plethora of misplaced passes and poor distribution from both backlines with the attack failing to take advantage.

Mata skied a shot from the penalty spot over the bar with Fazio producing a good save from De Gea in the opening 20 minutes.

The intensity of the first 45 minutes could not be replicated in the second half as Spurs ramped up the pressure in the final ten minutes.

Ryan Mason had a golden chance with eight minutes to go as he blazed his effort after being played in by a majestic reverse pass from Harry Kane.

Spurs may have felt they could have snatched it at the end but for a little more quality in the final third.
