Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe could make his Sunderland debut at White Hart Lane when the Black Cats visit on Saturday.

The 32-year-old completed his switch from Toronto FC this afternoon and has signed a three-and-a-half year contract with the Wearsiders.

And after receiving international clearance, the former Spurs striker could make his debut for Gus Poyet's side when they visit White Hart Lane on Saturday.

Defoe had returned to Spurs this month to train with the club's development side recently in order to maintain his fitness ahead of a potential return to the Premier League.

The former West Ham and Portsmouth forward scored 143 goals for Spurs in all competitions before leaving for MLS last year.

Spurs can overtake Arsenal to go fourth in the Premier League if they beat the Black Cats and the Gunners lose against Manchester City on Sunday.

Head coach Mauricio Pochettino has only two injury doubts - midfielder Ryan Mason and winger Erik Lamela.

Sunderland could be without four players, with Steven Fletcher, Jack Rodwell, Lee Cattermole and Anthony Reveillere all doubts.

Poyet's side are 16th in the Premier League and have drawn 11 of their 21 fixtures - the highest number in the top flight.
