Tottenham Hotspur's Nabil Bentaleb helped Algeria come from behind to beat South Africa 3-1 in their opening group match at the African Cup of Nations last night.
The 20-year-old midfielder played the full 90 minutes as the Desert Warriors started this year's tournament in Equatorial Guinea.
Victory in their opening group match means Algeria top Group C - termed 'the Group of Death' - on goal difference, having scored once more than second-placed Senegal.
Thuso Phala handed Bafana Bafana a second-half lead before Tokelo Rantie of Bournemouth missed a penalty.
Thulani Hlatshwayo put past his own goalkeeper to level for Algeria, with Faouzi Ghoulam and Islam Slimani sealing the win.
Algeria play Ghana on Friday.
