Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes believes striker Emmanuel Adebyayor is strong enough to deal with his ‘situation’ at Spurs.
The 30-year-old Togolese striker looked set to leave White Hart Lane at the end of last month after being granted a loan move by chairman Daniel Levy.
However, despite intense speculation surrounding the former Arsenal striker’s future, he eventually saw the opportunity to p on loan blocked by Levy.
Gomes, who made 136 appearances for Spurs, endured a frustrating end to his time at Spurs and failed to make a league appearance in his final three seasons with the club after being denied the chance of a move away.
The Brazil international eventually joined Watford on a free transfer in the summer.
Asked if he could draw any parallels between his own time at Spurs and Adebayor’s, the Brazilian said: “The players of course get frustrated. If a player isn’t strong in their mind then it is difficult. I believe that Adebayor is strong enough to deal with that situation.”
The 34-year-old added: “The only thing that disappoints me [about my time at Spurs] is the way they treated me at the end of my contract. I had offers to go but they were asking for a lot of money without me playing any games there.
“That was my only problem. I never complained or caused problems inside of the group, I am proud of that. I left out of the front door and that was important.”
And the former PSV Eindhoven stopper looks back on his time at Spurs with fondness.
He enthused: “It was tough but I had a great time as well. I was part of the best Tottenham team in the last few years and we achieved great things together.”
