Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino hailed his side’s “character” as they beat QPR 2-1 at Loftus Road.

Spurs climbed to sixth in the Premier League standings as they recorded their second win with both goals coming from Harry Kane.

Praising the would-be England international, the Spurs boss said: “Fantastic performance and scored two goals, nothing changes my opinion, he is young he can improve more but a great performance.”

Spurs seemed in cruise control but a goal by former Tottenham midfielder Sandro made the last 15 minutes a tense affair and Pochettino praised the way his side came through the afternoon.

He said: “Today was a great game and great performance, we showed character, QPR is a team that is very brave and it is difficult to stop them. We tried to play our game, we fully deserved the win.”

“We wanted to close the game and finish it off before. But we are still young and need to improve and we are in a good process.

“I am happy for them and pleased for them after two defeats in Florence and against Chelsea and we are hoping to show our philosophy in the final ten games.”

Not only did English forward Kane impress but Ryan Mason also had a fine display in a condensed midfield at Loftus Road and with England boss Roy Hodgson watching on, he could have played his way into the England squad for the forthcoming international.

The Spurs boss said: “Ryan and the whole team showed big character. It is this type of game where you can see the team has improved. The game was difficult because of the way QPR played.”

Spurs now face a massive fixture as they travel to Old Trafford next Sunday to face Manchester United.
