Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Ryan Mason could be set to mark his breakthrough season by winning his maiden England cap after being called into the senior squad for the first time.

The 23-year-old has been added to Roy Hodgson's squad after Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana withdrew with a groin injury.

Mason only made his league debut for Spurs this season but has been a revelation for Mauricio Pochettino in the centre of midfield.

And the former Lorient and Doncaster Rovers loanee will now join up with Hodgson's squad as they prepare for a 2016 European Championship qualifier against Lithuania on Friday and Tuesday's friendly in Italy.

Mason, who has made 29 appearances and scored twice this season for Spurs, joins Harry Kane, Danny Rose, Andros Townsend and Kyle Walker in the Three Lions squad.

The Enfield-born midfielder has previously represented England's Under-19 and Under-20 sides.
