Tottenham Hotspur defender DeAndre Yedlin has been called up by the USA to face Mexico on Thursday morning after making his Spurs debut against Aston Villa on Saturday.

The 21-year-old right-back came off the bench in Spurs' 1-0 home defeat by struggling Aston Villa, replacing Vlad Chiriches for the final 11 minutes at the Lane.

And the former Seattle Sounders defender will now join ex-Spurs striker Jurgen Klinsmann's squad to prepare for the USA's friendly with Mexico in San Antonio, Texas.

Reflecting on his Premier League debut, the pacey full-back told the club website defeat to Tim Sherwood's side had overshadowed the occasion for him.

"It’s unbelievable to make my debut here, something I’ve looked forward to for a while now but the circumstances weren’t the best and it was a disappointing loss," stated Yedlin.

"The only thing going through my head now is the loss. The debut was great but the loss overshadows everything. It’s disappointing but we have to keep our heads up.

"We’ll look to come back and get those points back," he added.

Yedlin has won 14 full caps for the USA and excelled during his three appearances for Klinsmann's side at the 2014 World Cup, prompting Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino to make his move.
