Tottenham Hotspur have stepped up their interest in signing Marseille forward Michy Batshuayi according to the Daily Mirror.

Spurs had been interested in Aston Villa strike Christian Benteke but his buyout clause of £32 million appears to have reduced Spurs’ interest in the player.

Batshuayi, who is international teammates with Benteke, could be on his way to north-London for a fee of around £9 million.

The 21-year-old striker is highly rated across Europe and already has one international goal for Belgium.

If the striker did sign for Spurs he would join his international teammates Jan Vertonghen, Nacer Chadli, Moussa Dembele and new signing Toby Alderweireld at the club.

The striker scored nine goals in 26 appearances for French side Marseille last season and netted every 99.9 minutes on average.
