With Emmanuel Adebayor looking set to finally leave White Hart Lane, Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly opened talks with Stuttgart striker Timo Werner.

The 19-year-old German striker scored just three Bundesliga goals in 16 starts last term but has been identified as the man to replace Aston Villa-bound Adebayor.

A runner up at the 2012 Under-17 European Championships, the 5ft 11in striker has seven league goals to his name in 32 starts for die Roten but boasts an enviable record for the club's Under-19 side and for his country at youth level.

Meanwhile, Adebayor's proposed reunion with former Spurs head coach Tim Sherwood at Villa Park looks to be edging closer to completion.

Villans assistant Ray Wilkins confirmed earlier in the week the former Arsenal and Real Madrid striker was a target for the Midlands outfit.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Wilkins was asked whether a move for striker was on. He replied: "I think it is. I'm hoping it is because when Adebayor wants to play, he is extremely effective.

"He knows the Premier League inside out, so he would be a good addition for us."

The former Manchester City striker made just 11 starts in all competitions last term for Spurs.
