Head coach Mauricio Pochettino felt a man-of-the-match display from Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard was what prevented Tottenham Hotspur collecting their first three points of the Premier League season.

The game finished goalless and the veteran American made a string of fine saves to keep Spurs at bay, with Pochettino's side unable to force in a win despite having 20 attempts on goal at White Hart Lane.

“Tim Howard was Man of the Match - that’s the clear answer,” Pochettino told the club website after Harry Kane, Ryan Mason, Nacer Chadli, Jan Vertonghen, Eric Dier and Nabil Bentaleb all tried their luck.

The Argentine continued: “I’m disappointed because I think we deserved more but in the last few games we’ve deserved more, more and more.

“We need to improve in front of the opponents’ goal and to be more clinical but this type of period can happen.

“The good thing is that we’ve played better than Manchester United, Stoke City, Leicester City and Everton."

Pochettino admitted he was frustrated at failing to get off the mark at the fourth attempt but says he has no concerns whilst an attacking trio wait in the wings.

"I think we’re in a good way but it’s true, you feel a little frustrated because you play better and draw, play better and draw, play better and draw," he admitted. "That is a little upsetting. Why? Because we deserve more.

“We need to maintain the performance, this is the right way and we’re not worried because when Christian Eriksen, Clinton Njie and Son Heung-min are available it’s a strong squad.”
