FULHAM manager Martin Jol believes his side should have had a penalty to draw level in the end of their defeat to Spurs.

Kyle Walker appeared to handle the ball in stoppage time during a goal mouth scramble, but referee Peter Walton waved away appeals for a penalty.

Jol, an ex-Tottenham manager, said afterwards: “I felt we were a bit hard done by, by the penalty situation.”

He said his side “deserved a draw” after piling pressure on an unconvincing Spurs side who were without manager Harry Redknapp.

The Dutchman shrugged off the lack of goals from his side, who spurned a hat-full of chances to draw level in the second half, but praised Tottenham for being “very efficient” in front of goal.

Assistant Manager Joe Jordan, deputising for Redknapp who is recovering from heart surgery, dismissed the penalty appeal against Walker.

He said: “I don't think [it was a penalty], there were a number of other areas like the chances they could have taken, but they didn't take them.

“They will be disappointed because they put enough into the game to take something from it."

Jermain Defoe scored in the first minute of the game to seal the victory and a scoreline that flattered Spurs.

Jordan admitted: “I didn't expect, the way the game went in the second half, to get the third goal because we were hanging on in there.

“In the first half we were never really under pressure, but it was different in the second half.

“The last helf hour, we had to hang on in there, but we showed determination and spirit, and had to be resillient.”

He added the resillience is something that was lacking a couple of years ago when Tottenham were bottom of the league after eight games, and is the difference that helps the club challenge for honours.
