Spurs midfielder Scott Parker played the full 90 minutes as England beat Ukraine 1-0 to advance to the quarter finals of Euro 2012.

The former West Ham man retained his place in midfield alongside Steven Gerrard and helped Roy Hodgson’s side top Group D, setting up a date with Italy on Sunday.

The returning Wayne Rooney headed the decisive goal early in the second half in Donetsk, while Chelsea’s John Terry made a last-ditch clearance to deny Marko Devic, although the ball looked to have crossed the line.

The result completed a successful opening to the tournament for England who topped the group with seven points ahead of the meeting with the Italians in Kiev.
